Do the marketing companies follow their own advice?

REBOOT ONLINE STUDIED SEO COMPANIES

The said research, conducted by RebootOnline.com, was able to analyze 30 marketing / SEO companies and these were the 5 common SEO mistakes.

  1. 70% of the SEO companies do not guarantee a fast page speed.
  2. 63% of the SEO companies had a poor internal linking system.
  3. 57% of the SEO companies had low-quality pages indexed by Google.
  4. 52% of the SEO companies had pages with mediocre content.
  5. 47% of the SEO companies had pages with no focus keywords or are NOT optimized for the appropriate keyword.

PAGE SPEED:

  • As you can see, 70% of the companies have slow page speed. On average, the website only got 41/100.
  • If you refer to the Google’s PageSpeed Insights page, you will learn that a score of 90-100 is fast, 50-89 is average, and anything below 49 is slow.
  • Page speed is not something you should ignore. In fact, many users regard SPEED as an important factor in a website. So, go to the Google’s PageSpeed Insights page and input your URL to check your website’s speed.

INTERNAL LINKING:

  • Next is the problem of internal linking. 63% of the websites had problem with their internal links. With no internal linking system, it’s hard to say that a website is UNITED.
  • In reality, a website has to be cohesive. It has to work as one.
  • For Google to understand how your website works, there should be an interconnection of related pages.

INDEXING:

  • If we dig deeper, 70% of the websites, found on the 2nd page of the Google search results, had obvious indexing issues. On the 3rd page of the SERPs, the numbers went up to 75%!
  • About 57% of SEO companies had pages indexed that are unnecessary. Pages such as an empty or under construction, a thank you page, and several pages with NO relevance should not have been submitted.

INFERIOR CONTENT:

  • More than half of the SEO companies had poor content. 52% of the websites had content that’s not useful to the readers. In fact, there were pages with no text at all!
  • Obviously, this is just wasting away your user’s precious time.
  • On the first page of the SERP, only 13% had inferior content. However, on the 3rd page, 1/3 of the websites had irrelevant content.

KEYWORD OPTIMIZATION:

  • Lastly, we have the keywords. Nearly 50% (47% to be exact) of SEO companies did not optimize or add relevant keyword to the web pages.
  • Also, header tags were used. To highlight important keywords, you should use the H1 to H6 options. This also serves as a division of your texts. You can’t just paste a slab of text. How are people supposed to read that? Of course, they would ignore that huge chunk of boring text!
  • Whatever keywords you are ranking for, it should reflect on your landing page.

Prevent these SEO Mistakes to Happen on Your WordPress Website (Part 1)

In 2019, 34.3% of websites are powered by WordPress. That’s more than 1/3 of the total number of websites. To put it simply, 1 in 3 websites are using WordPress.

Obviously, WordPress is the people’s choice when it comes to search engine optimization. If you want to create a website, WordPress and SEO go hand in hand. However, just because everyone is choosing WordPress, it doesn’t mean things will be easier.

There are still SEO mistakes that you need to know and you need to avoid at all costs.

1. No Time Zone Was Set.

  • This is one common mistake. Since signing up will require a lot of information from the user, many newbies tend to forget this crucial part. It’s important to select and set your own time zone. To do this, you need to go to setting and choose general section.
  • If you don’t, you will be surprised why a “scheduled post” was not published on time. Know your preferred time zone and set it at that. So, your future blog posts will follow that same time zone.
  • Be sure to check and set the proper time zone so that you can guarantee to produce timely blog posts and article. AND NOT POST SOMETHING A DAY BEHIND!

2. No Specific Goals Were Set.

  • In Google Analytics, you will have an idea on what your stats are. Yes, measuring the website metrics is important in analyzing if your SEO efforts were successful or not. However, you need to know WHAT YOU WANT.
    • Are you after the visits? Do you want to achieve 2 million views per month? Do you want more people to read your article?
    • Are you after the sales? Do you need more sales than page views?
  • See, you need to have specific goals before you start measuring the stats. If you want views, then, focus on views. If you want sales, focus on the product transactions. You can’t measure all at once. First, you need to take it slow. You can’t just implement multiple strategies at once. In the end, you will never know what works and what does not if you decide to monitor everything you see.

3. You Did Not Enable the Social Media Sharing.

  • Social media shares do not affect your website ranking, but it does help in advertising your website on other digital platforms.
  • The more people will see the social media post, the more clicks you will reciev for your website.
  • No doubt, social media shares can give you a boost. Hence, you would want as many clicks as possible, right?

  • For you to get your sitemap, just go to the SEO section of your Yoast SEO plugin and choose XML Sitemaps. Make sure you have enabled the option and you can view it. Lastly, don’t forget to upload this XML sitemap to Google Search Console.

How to Get More Google Reviews (Part 3)

Now, we are down to the last blog post on a 3-part series on how to get more reviews. If you need a recap on the previous 2 articles, here they are: How to Get More Google Reviews (Part 1) and How to Get More Google Reviews (Part 2).

5-star rating system

Train your customer service representatives to ask for reviews.

The customer service team represents your business. Each day, they will deal with numerous customers so you should equip them with the right resources. They should know how to handle product-related queries. Thus, they are sources of customer reviews. Without your customer service team, you won’t be able to gain enough reviews for your online business.

  • They should follow a script.
    • Provide concrete examples on how your team should ask for reviews. Asking right away may be too obvious that you are ONLY after the reviews. Instead, try to converse and interact first.
    • Directly saying, “Please leave a positive review on Google.” just seems so demanding of you. Why not try something like, “Thanks for your kind words, Ms. Smith! I am delighted to know that you are pleased with your recent purchase. If you want us to serve you better in the future, kindly leave a review on Google.”
  • Reward their efforts.
    • In part 2, I mentioned offering incentives to customers. This time around, I will tell you to reward your customer service team as well! Reward employees that are successful securing positive reviews. By doing this, you are motivating all your employees to work hard and gain extra pay if they ask for reviews.
    • If an employee’s name is mentioned, then, give him/her an extra incentive. This simply means that an employee was able to live up to the expectations of the customer expectations. Hence, you should reward this kind of productive employees.

Add a Google review link to your website or app.

When you merely copying and pasting reviews, it does not help prove your legitimacy. Highlight these positive reviews on your website. If you can, collate all the good and practical reviews, then, make customized graphic cards. Disseminate these visual aids to all your social channels.

Other than that, add button on your website like “Read what others are saying” to conveniently access all the reviews about your business. This way, you are redirecting your customers to your Google reviews page, allowing them to share their own shopping experience as well.

Host events and conduct giveaways.

Because not everything is about business, bond with your customers. By hosting a special event or by having a simple giveaway, you can show your gratitude to your customers. This helps in strengthening the growing relationship you have with the people around you.

For them to join the giveaway, there should be a condition like leaving a product review. The goal here is not to sell more goods, but to experiment on how to get more reviews. If you think doing special giveaways boost brand awareness and positive reviews, then, do it often.

When your customers are emotionally invested with your brand, they will become your repeat customers. Going back for more shopping won’t be too difficult to do. For sure, they will go out of their way to tell the world of your online business.

Wrapping up

Google is the leading in the world of search.  In fact, they are looking for ways to make search easier for everyone. It’s no surprise that everyone relies on Google even for product reviews. So, don’t forget to encourage your customers to leave helpful reviews on Google.

How to Get More Google Reviews (Part 2)

The reviews you receive are proof that you are doing a legit business. This really helps in boosting your reputation and reliability. Whether you get positive or negative reviews, the important thing to do is to acknowledge them.

Respond to the online reviews and assure them that you are seeing their feedback. All reviews should be appreciated. Why? In a study posted on HBR.org, the researchers emphasized on the fact that responding to product reviews produce higher ratings for your business.

a customer leaving a 5-star rating

So, don’t ignore the reviews. Thank your customers for making a helpful review and let them feel that leaving a review is NOT a waste of their precious time.

Remember to acknowledge the reviews whether it be positive or negative.

  • Positive reviews

Positive reviews are the foundation of your online reputation. Of course, you would want to have more positive reviews than negative reviews. So, be thankful when someone leaves a positive one.

  • Negative reviews

When someone leaves a negative review, don’t be said. Here’s how a negative review can help your business.

Remember, a negative review is your chance to convert into happy customers. You just need to do the following:

  • Rule number #1: Apologize.
  • Being defensive won’t help you.
  • Instead, be polite and courteous.
  • Connect with the customer via email or private message so you can ask for the specific details.

If you need to, then, apologize to your unhappy customers. Take note of their suggestions and opinions. Use this poor shopping experience to improve your services in the future. When your happy customers see that you are even responding to the negative ones, then, this will encourage them to leaving a 5-star Google review.

Educate your customers on the importance of leaving a review.

  • Most of the time, the customers think that when they are done shopping, that’s it. No, inform them of the significance of product reviews.
  • Customers might ask, “What’s in it for me then?” In a way, remind them that reviews are for you to improve your service. Thus, improving your customer relations as well. Emphasize on how you are going to use their reviews.
  • Aside from it fostering long-term customer relationships, reviews help you make better products and create better user experience. Remember, customers will only take action if they know the purpose of their review.
  • So, add value to the reviews and pick the correct words to explain your point. For example, you can say something like, “this is to make better products” or “we are finding ways on how to serve you better”. When you are encouraging your customers to leave a review, give them a little nudge and motivate them that the reviews will benefit them. At the end of the day, they will be rewarded by the product review they leave behind.

Offer a token as a sign of gratitude.

  • Lastly, thank your customers for taking the time to write a review. To express your gratitude, you can offer a simple gift. This is could be a small discount voucher and a free item on their next purchase. It really doesn’t need to huge and expensive. This is not a way to bribe them; it just simple means that they are welcome to leave a good (or bad) review. Still, you are giving them a small token for doing so!

In the end, you should help your customers see the benefits of leaving a review. If you need to catch up on part 1, here’s the link to How to Get More Google Reviews (Part 1)

How to Get More Google Reviews (Part 1)

According to PowerReviews.com, almost all online customers rely on reviews. Their research shows that 97% of consumers look for online reviews before they make their purchase decision. Truth be told, I’m not surprised. I even agree to the findings because I, myself, read reviews before I shop for items online.

Another article published on ConversionXML.com stated that Google review can help improve your website’s click-through rate by more than 35%. See, how effective reviews are in convincing people to make a purchase.

In this blog post, I will tell you tips on how to get more Google reviews for your brand. Learn the ways to surely get reviews so that making purchase decisions will be easier for your customers.

Ask for Reviews.

Tip #1: Don’t be afraid to ask. In fact, you should always ask. Train your team to always get the customer’s feedback. The staff, who frequently talks to the customers, should know that one of his task is to request for customer reviews.

Also, leaving a review should be easy. Instead of a long explanation on how to leave a review, simplify it for your customers. Write your points using bullets and numbers so that your customer can easily follow.

If not, you can use visuals. A “happy face” to indicate that they are satisfied while a “sad face” indicates otherwise. Once the happy face is clicked, further questions are asked to help explain his/her review. It’s as simple as that. For sure, a customer will know what to do.

Board, Chalk, Feedback, Review, Study, School

Finally, always use a positive and encouraging tone when asking for a review. Don’t sound too demanding. Ask nicely and here are some more tips for you:

  • Social interaction

Conversing with a customer through chat, email, or social media? Use this as an opportunity to ask for a review. Encourage the customer to share his/her positive shopping experience.

  • Email

Not all customers will get to converse with your online staff. So, make it a point to always send customized emails to remind customers that they have yet to leave a product review.

Related: Passive and Active Reviews

To make reviews easier for your customers, there are services such as TrustPilot and ReviewTrackers that will automate the review process.

  • Printed cards

Just because you do business online, it does not mean you won’t have printed materials. It still helps to have cards and pamphlets to remind customers to leave a review.

What can you add to these cards?

    • Your QR code on social media like WeChat.
    • The social media links for your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts.
    • Lastly, don’t forget the official website.
  • Call-to-action buttons

Most of the time, customers will not post a review immediately so you have to actually remind them. When they are on your site or app, send a reminder. Usually, a pop-up with a CTA button will do the work.

Generally, you can say something like, “Looks like you haven’t’ left a review yet. Consider rating us on Google!” After this statement, there should be a button that will redirect them to the review page. Like I said earlier, make it easy for your customers.

By providing convenient buttons, they can quickly leave a review and go to what they are doing. For best results, be specific on what you want them to do. You can ask them to:

    • Share their experience on your products and services.
    • Tag you on social media.
    • Refer new customers.
    • Present them the latest deals and encourage them to order again.

More Tips on How to Quickly Get Out of the Google Sandbox

Google has added specific algorithms for new sites. Just read my post on: Is There Really a Google Sandbox? Now, the question is – will this trend continue in 2019? If newer sites be placed in the Google Sandbox, how do you prevent from placed in the Google Sandbox? How to rank higher quickly?

Google search on a tablet screen

Here’s a list of things you can do:

5. Build authority.

  • Remember, E-A-T? Always strive to build authority. Google will always go after the users’ want. If the users unanimously pick a website, Google merely shows what the users chose.
  • At the end of the day, Google wants website owners to show expertise, be credible, and be trustworthy.
  • As a fairly new website, it’s normal that Google has no idea who you are. As you try to improve and add more content, Google will obtain more data about your site.
  • So, win the hearts of the Google users if you want Google to favor your website. Furthermore, Google will consider a site “credible” if it has a lot of mentions, links, and queries about your brand.

6. Haste makes waste.

  • Like number 5, this tip is related to authoritative. Don’t be too rash when making decision. Plan your every content. Remember, the goal here is NOT for everything to be perfect, but for your content to be united.
  • After all, the internet is series of interconnect networks. Same for your content, it should all be connected. There should be a smooth flow of links. You should build an internal linking system. Users should be able to navigate from one page to another without any glitches.
  • Remember, there are things you can’t speed up. If you put too much effort in increasing your rank, Google might view it as being spammy.
  • Even though you will legitimately acquire external links, Google will be suspicious if you got it in a very short time. Being too aggressive in advertising your website has its side effects.
  • So, focus on letting things flow on its natural order. It’s never the number of links, but it is more of the quality of links. Ultimately, it is important to keep a steady pace. As time passes, your website will naturally grow. Never be sad for having a slow start. In no time, Google will gradually consider you as trustworthy and credible.

7. Buy an existing website.

  • Well, if you want to quickly avoid the Google Sandbox, you might need to buy an already working website.
  • Yes, you will be spending a hefty sum of money, but you are sure that the website is already established, and it has been live for quite a long time.
  • So, if you are thinking of buying an existing website or business, you can visit sites such as Flippa. It is an online marketplace where you can buy (or sell) websites, apps, and domains.
  • In this website, the price ranges from a few bucks to thousands of dollar. In fact, I even saw an app selling for only $12 dollars.

To wrap things up, don’t hurry because the right time will come. Eventually, Google will see your efforts.  Boost your SEO efforts slowly but surely. Over time, you will see the fruits of all your hard work. Never go for mediocrity; always strive for excellence.

What’s in Store for Google Sandbox this 2019?

Within a month, website rankings usually shoot up and gain a substantial rank. However, there are SEO professionals who think that there is a force that is preventing websites from getting a good ranking spot within the first few months since the website’s creation.

Google homepage on a computer screen

In a previous blog post, I was able to discuss this phenomenon in detail: Is There Really a Google Sandbox? Now that you know a thing or two about Google Sandbox, I will proceed to elaborate on how to get out of the sinking sand. Here are a few tips on how to avert Google Sandbox:

1. Accelerate the indexing process

  • When you publish your website, yes, your website is out to the world, but it’s not yet on Google’s radar. It is still new to Google not unless it is indexed. To know if your website has been successfully indexed by Google. First, you need to go the Google homepage and search “site:insertyourwebaddresshere.” This will let you know how many web pages have been indexed by Google.
  • If you don’t see any pages, you need to act fast and do the necessary measures. To expedite the indexing process, add your domain name on Google Search Console and upload your XML sitemap.

2. Increase web traffic

  • In the first few days of site, obtaining a substantial amount of traffic necessary. This will let Google know that your website is getting page clicks. Thus, Google will help you move up. With a higher ranking, you easily get out of the Google Sandbox.
  • For web visitors to flock your site, consider posting on other platforms. Promote your website in forums and group pages, in Facebook, in Twitter, and places where people hang out often.
  • Also, it will also help if you try to post on other websites. Reach out and try to do a guest post on popular sites. This will not only bring more people to your site, but also strengthen your backlink profile.

3. Boost social media presence

  • Popularity on social media is a good sign. For example, gaining a reputation on sites, like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, would signal Google that your website is trusted by many.
  • To gain more traffic to your own site, you might want to consider signing up for a paid promotion or do a series of ads on Facebook and social networking sites.
  • Also, when you blog about a certain topic, do not forget to promote it on Facebook. This will definitely boost the visibility of your blog posts.

4. Choose keywords carefully

  • When you are still in the “sandbox”, Google may not boost your rankings if you prioritize the popular keywords. Instead, choose long tail keywords.
  • To know keywords to rank, you need to do a keyword research first.
  • Check what keywords are trending and what are not. Also, do know what your competitors are targeting.
  • It is best to do a competitor research and rank for the same keywords that they are targeting.
  • For starters, there are tools like Ubersuggest and Keyworddit. Read more on: SEO Keyword Tools That Are Free to Use.

Is There Really a Google Sandbox?

According to a theory, Google Sandbox filters websites on the search results page. Allegedly, it is said that Google prevent new websites from getting high rankings. In a way, Google Sandbox serves as a screen to regulate the rankings for newer websites.

Well, what started this idea? It is believed that newer websites may not be as useful and significant as the older sites. Furthermore, some new websites – if not, most sites – are considered to be spam.

woman using Google search on her macbook air

While Google has not published an official statement, many SEO professional tend to assume this to be true. Marketers, and professionals alike, have noticed such changes on the different websites that they are optimizing. Thus, it is easy to conclude that it’s hard to escape the clutches of Google Sandbox when you have a relatively new website.

How Google Sandbox started?

  • It was in 2004 when SEO professionals noticed that newer websites did not move up the leaderboard. In terms of ranking, these websites were not doing well. Despite the efforts of following the proper guidelines, Google did not indexed the sites.
  • However, on other search engines, these websites were giving a higher ranking. Compared to Google, Bing and Yahoo gave it a better ranking.
  • Because Google only wanted to feature the most relevant and useful sites on their search results, Google Sandbox made perfect sense.

Google never said anything about Google Sandbox.

On the other hand, Google’s Gary Illyes said that we don’t have a sandbox. Basically, Google denied the reality of a sandbox. Nevertheless, some Google’s employees may have hinted something.

  • John Mueller, Google’s Webmaster Trends Analyst, said that there is no “traditional sandbox”, but there are algorithms that function the same way. This works as a way of understanding how new websites are connected to other websites.
  • Matt Cutts, a former Google head, added that as long as the websites have been in existence for a few months, then, it should show up in the SERPs.

Well, there you go. You can’t rank immediately. The hint was obvious, and websites should be a couple months old.

Is there any explanation why newer websites do not rank high?

Google emphasized that there should be enough data on a website before they rank it accordingly. Also, they reiterated on the importance of E-A-T! Before anything else, a website should prove its expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness first. To be honest, it’s nearly impossible to gain Google’s trust in an instant. Below are some of the reason why a site may not receive a higher ranking than expected:

1. Not enough content

  • For Google to understand your website, there should be enough content. The more content, the more you show that you have authority. Otherwise, Google will not clearly know your website if you don’t provide enough content.

2. Weak backlink profile

  • Improving your backlink profile is important. In a way, it greatly influences your website rankings. When backlinks are established, it proves that you are an expert.
  • Also, check the internal links. Your content should also be connected with each other.

3. Less user engagement

  • Google scan the website activity. Other than content and links, it checks for other factors such as click-through rate, bounce rate, session time, and many more.
